- Payroll Execution: Oversee the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for a large, multi-province employee population using Payroll and HRIS systems
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all wages, deductions, garnishments, and taxes are processed in accordance with federal, provincial, and local laws
- Data Accuracy: Conduct regular audits and reconciliations to validate payroll data integrity and identify discrepancies before processing
- Team Coordination: Provide guidance and task delegation to Payroll Team, ensuring clarity, accountability, and high-quality outcomes
- People Leadership: Foster an inclusive, feedback-driven team culture by modeling H&M values and supporting professional development
- Colleague Support: Act as a key point of contact for payroll-related questions, delivering timely and respectful responses to employees across the organization
- Issue Resolution: Collaborate with the Payroll Manager to address escalations, resolve complex issues, and respond to internal/external audit inquiries
- Controls Enhancement: Recommend and implement internal control improvements based on audit findings, business needs, or process & system changes
- Reporting & Insights: Produce, analyze, and interpret payroll reports to inform business decisions and meet compliance requirements, while maintaining confidentiality including partnership with other key stakeholders
- Process Optimization: Lead efforts to streamline payroll workflows and enhance efficiency through improved procedures or new system functionalities
- Technology Enablement: Lead payroll-related system enhancements by gathering stakeholder requirements, partnering with tech teams & key stakeholders to test and implement updates, and ensuring solutions meet operational needs and drive user adoption
- Status Communication: Keep the Payroll Manager informed of payroll cycle progress, team workload, and any identified risks or opportunities
- Professional Conduct: Uphold the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and professionalism in all payroll communications and data handling
- 5+ years of Payroll experience
- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or team lead role
- Experienced in Project Management
- PCP Certification (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) preferred
- Bilingual English & French Canadian preferred
- Previous experience with Dayforce HCM and SAP systems, or other similar time keeping system required
- Previous experience at large, fast pace, complex organizations (employee population 4000+) preferred
- Ensures that payroll team provides excellent customer service according to H&M standards
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
- Must be able to effectively collaborate and partner with internal and external teams
- Ability to think and work strategically; able to plan ahead and foresee opportunities
- Excellent organizational skills, time management, prioritizing, and able to work with deadlines
- Customer centric mindset, employee-focused approach to payroll administration
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel and ability to adapt to Company specific systems
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing effectively throughout all levels of the company with discretion
