As a leader in our branch, your role will be to inspire and cultivate our vision and cultural commitments while championing continuous improvement in your area of responsibility.As a Labourer I / Truck Driver III in Parks & Roads Services, you will perform Labourer I and Truck Driver III work as needed.What will you do?Labourer IPerform heavy manual work with the use of hand toolsOperate vehicles transporting materials and supplies and direct traffic during street construction projectsLoad and unload materials from trucksDig holes and trenchesManually sweep and apply traction aids to sidewalks and refill sand dispensersPerform general housekeeping duties on yardsitesRemove snow around bridges, sidewalks, stairways and approaches and sand slippery sidewalks and crosswalksAssist tradespeople in general building maintenance and constructionManually/Mechanically sweep sand and debris off of sidewalks, boulevards, etcPerform other related duties as requiredTruck Driver IIIOperate and care for a tandem or single axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice controlBe aware of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to Public Property when operating plow, including snow off the wingDeliver people, materials, equipment or parts to field crews, load and move equipment between work sites and pick up parts and materials from vendors, warehouses and/or City stockyardsLoad and unload materials manually and/or with the assistance of a power tailgate or liftPerform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipmentInform the lead hand of any on-the-road issues with equipment or observed accident or property damagePerform other duties related to snow and ice controlQualificationsCompletion of Grade 10 or higherTraining on sander/plowFirst Aid CertificationAssets:Experience in mechanical walk clearingExperience in hand work, including snow clearingCity of Edmonton Sander/Plow TrainingSkills required for success:Ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner, including detecting minor defects in equipment as neededAbility to understand and execute oral and written instructionsAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( )Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionAlignment with the goals of the Environmental Management SystemConditions of Employment:Current and valid Alberta Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement (or provincial equivalent).
