- Process full-cycle weekly and bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple provinces
- Ensure payroll accuracy including earnings, deductions, taxable benefits, and garnishments
- Interpret and apply union collective agreements, including premiums, overtime rules, and seniority provisions
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable legislation (CRA, ESA, provincial requirements)
- Reconcile payroll reports, remittances, and year-end activities (T4s, RL-1s where applicable)
- Support audits and ensure proper documentation and controls are in place
- Prepare biweekly journal entries and upload to the ERP system.
- Complete monthly account reconciliations.
- Calculate and remit Workers Compensation and other Employer taxes (EHT) premiums to the applicable provincial agencies.
- Review and complete all year-end tasks: T4 review and balancing, CPP/EI reconciliation; WCB and EHT year-end filing, T4 filing, and T4 distribution.
- Participate in the investigation and resolution of complex, non-routine problems.
- Ensure integrity and security of associate data; ensure associate files meet CRA, privacy & internal audit standards, and that corporate filing is kept current.
- Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, disability, life insurance, retirement plans)
- Manage employee enrollments, changes, and terminations in benefits systems
- Liaise with benefits providers and resolve employee inquiries and issues
- Ensure compliance with plan policies and applicable legislation
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation and regulations
- Prepare and submit statutory remittances (CPP, EI, income tax, provincial equivalents)
- Generate regular and ad hoc payroll and benefits reports for finance and HR
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity of employee records
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and benefits in a timely and professional manner
- Provide guidance and education to employees on payroll and benefits processes
- Support HR initiatives, system implementations, and process improvements
- 5+ years of payroll and benefits administration experience, preferably in a multi-provincial environment
- Experience supporting both unionized and non-unionized workforces
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and practices
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or working towards certification is preferred
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems, UKG is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
- High attention to detail and accuracy
