We’re seeking someone to join our team as a Data Scientist in Non-Financial Risk to develop and deploy advanced AI models using NLP, Machine Learning, and quantitative techniques to improve surveillance and compliance monitoring.In the Legal & Compliance division, we assist the Firm in achieving its business objectives by facilitating and overseeing the Firm’s management of legal, regulatory, and franchise risk. Read on…What you’ll do in the role:Development of AI models leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning and related quantitative techniques to improve surveillance and compliance monitoring activitiesDesign high-performance systems utilizing cutting-edge NLP/ML techniques including large language models, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), Agentic AI architecture, and knowledge graph analyticsCreate GenAI based solutions to enhance efficiency and achieve significant cost savings in labor-intensive manual tasksUndertake research efforts to identify novel methods to deliver efficiency and effectiveness across analytical solutionsWork with stakeholders of the Compliance, Legal, Financial Crimes, and IT departments to champion the adoption of new AI/ML/NLP approaches, techniques and capabilitiesWhat you’ll bring to the role:Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or other highly quantitative fieldAt least 6 years of hands-on industry experience in building AI/ML/NLP solutions and applied statistical analysis to solve complex business problemsKnowledge of software design and system principles, and excellent skills in either Python (preferred) or JavaExperience with AI/ML/NLP software packages such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, OpenAI SDK, PyTorch, HuggingFace, etc.Experience with benchmark creation and evaluation including LLM-as-a-Judge based techniquesKnowledge of Vector Stores, Linux, SPARQL, and Graph DatabasesExperience in adhering to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) principles include GIT related operationsFamiliarity with Financial Markets, with an emphasis on Compliance, Non-Financial Risk, Financial Crimes, and Fraud analytics.At Morgan Stanley Montreal, we support the Firm’s global businesses and infrastructure with cutting edge technology and innovation.
