- Ensures the quality and safety of welded structures by verifying that welds meet specific codes, standards, and specifications.
- Responsibilities include inspecting welds, reviewing welding procedures, and conducting visual and dimensional inspections
- Examining completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards.
- Checking Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welder qualifications.
- Using visual aids and tools to identify defects and ensuring welds meet specified dimensions
- Performing visual inspections and using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods
- Observing welders and preheating procedures
- Recording inspection results and any non-conformities
- Investigating non-conformities i.e. identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with welders, engineers, and other personnel.
- API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification; OR
- API 570 Piping Inspector Certification; OR
- CWB W178.2 Level II or III Welding Inspector Certification with B31.1, B31.3, W47, W59, ASME VIII-1 & IX Code Endorsements.
