Are you a skilled operator who takes pride in keeping our community safe and accessible? The City of Edmonton is looking for dedicated Truck Driver III professionals to join our Mobility Infrastructure team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of essential city maintenance, transitioning between critical summer concrete projects and vital winter snow and ice control.As a Truck Driver III, you are a key player in maintaining the infrastructure that keeps Edmonton moving. Your year will be divided by the seasons: in the summer, you will focus on concrete dig-up and base restoration, while in the winter, you will lead efforts in plowing, sanding, and de-icing. This role involves active site work, including setting grades and performing general labor when required to ensure our roads are safe for all users.What will you do?
  • Operate 3-axle trucks with a GVWR over 13,000 kg and trailers in a safe and efficient manner
  • Provide winter maintenance to roads, including snow/ice clearing, plowing, and application of sanding or de-icing materials
  • Work independently and with concrete crews to remove broken concrete and base material, hauling it to and from work sites
  • Perform detailed pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and conduct daily maintenance such as cleaning and greasing
  • Set grades for new concrete placement and perform land restoration according to the City of Edmonton Design standards
  • Complete vital paperwork, including manifest logs, defect slips, and Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs)
  • Perform general labor duties such as manual sidewalk cleaning, pothole repairs, and flagging as operationally required
  • Read and interpret blueprints and Alberta One Call documents before starting tasks
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade
  • 1 year of experience in the operation of a tandem axle truck or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 1 season of experience with concrete dig-up tasks
  • City of Edmonton D Permit (Passed)
  • City of Edmonton Sander/Plow trained and passed
Skills required for success:
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate assigned equipment
  • Good working knowledge of the methods and practices used in operating and caring for equipment
  • Knowledge of truck routes within the City of Edmonton
  • Knowledge of the Parks and Roads Services (PARS) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance operations
  • Exemplary customer service skills when dealing with community partners and the public
  • Ability to work and make decisions in an independent manner, adapting to changing priorities based on weather or managerial direction
  • Possession of excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as analytical and problem-solving skills

Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 driver's licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent)
  • Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's D - permit is a requirement of this position
  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coveralls
  • Possession of current Emergency First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications
Work Environment:
  • The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains
  • Exposure to environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, dust, noise, light variation, vibrations, chemicals, animals, and exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, may occur
  • Ability to work in the presence of asphalt, concrete, dust, and noise in inclement weather and adverse traffic conditions
  • This role requires completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, lifting items to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, and using feet/hand control, requiring physical stamina and resilience
  • The position involves shift work/shift rotations:
  • Ability to work a 12 hr per day rotating shift in the winter season
  • Ability to work a 10 hr shift in the summer season
  • Weekend and night work is mandatory
