
Postdoctoral Fellow - Reconfigurable Metasurfaces/Metamaterials and Silicon Photonics

- Position: 2 x Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions
- Location: Nanoscale Optics Lab, University of Alberta, Edmonton
- Start Date: Dec 2025 (Flexible)
- Duration: 2 years, with potential for extension
- Supervisor: Behrad Gholipour
- A PhD (or near completion) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience with nanophotonics, metasurfaces/metamaterials, silicon photonics and/or quantum optics.
- Experience with nanofabrication, cleanroom environments and ultrahigh vacuum vapour deposition and growth systems.
- Skills in electromagnetic simulation, nanofabrication, or optical characterization techniques.
- Skills in programming hardware instrumentation using any of the following languages: C, C#, Python, Labview, Matlab
- A strong publication record and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with common optics/multiphysics simulation codebases/packages e.g Ansys Lumerical, Comsol Multiphysics, RCWA.
- Optional: Experience with chalcogenide semiconductors and nano-opto-mechanical systems.
