- Plan and undertake or oversee all required multi-discipline (civil, architectural, mechanical, process, electrical) drafting design activities for the active projects. Activities will vary depending on project scope.
- Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed site and other composite database-driven 3D models.
- Generate sketches for documents and engagement materials, and appropriate packages of 2D drawings including site layout drawings (plan, elevation and section views), general assembly drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics, flow diagrams and flowsheets, electrical schematics, and data and materials lists.
- Support the identification and incorporation of all design and system requirements with engineers and other project team members.
- Assist in developing designs and technical specifications for both whole sites, and specific systems such as heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC); water supply, processing, and storage; building control systems, etc.
- Conduct interference and tolerancing assessments using 3D modelling software tools, identifying design conflicts and resolving with the appropriate engineers or other team members.
- Provide technical instructions to supporting junior drafters to enable effective performance of their assigned activities.
- Ensure effective and interactive working with other team members, sharing data in a timely coordinated manner and preventing “siloed” working.
- Check the work performed by self and others meets the quality requirements in accordance with company QA programs and manuals, as well as the specific requirements of the customer and project scope.
- Participate in formal and informal 3D model and design reviews as may be mandated for the design activities.
- Support business development in the team through delivering quality on-time work, cultivating valued contacts with customer counterparts through technical excellence, and supporting the preparation of sketches and concepts for proposals as required.
- Perform site walkdowns if required by the project or to accurately complete design work.
- College diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or a Process/Piping/Civil Drafting Certificate combined with relevant job experience.
- Minimum 8 years in a mix of civil, mechanical and process design and drafting roles.
- Experience drafting site layouts and construction drawings for major new build projects including industrial site layouts, buildings and structures is required.
- Knowledge of, and experience working within established highly regulated industry quality assurance requirements, procedures, and practices is required. Nuclear industry QA program working experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of new nuclear early site and facility design and drafting is an asset.
- Knowledge of civil, mechanical and process design codes and standards is an asset.
- Proven capability in modern digital design and shared working tools, as well as multiple modelling and CAD software packages, particularly AutoCAD, AutoCAD Raster Design, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Smart Plant 3D/Smart. Experience in Microstation, Navisworks Manage and Tekla is also an asset.
- Ability to work from a “blank canvas”, transforming early engineering concepts, analysis, and options into 3D models and 2D drawings is a must.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, incorporating ideas and feedback from all engineering disciplines into a consolidated design and model.
- Must be able to travel to client sites as required, according to specific project needs.
