
I&IT Field Support Services Technician

- Assisting with the installation, commissioning, and testing of electronic systems and equipment deployed across Metrolinx capital projects.
- Participating in a variety of field assignments related to Information & Innovation Technology (IIT), Capital Projects, Fare Collection Systems, and Realty Services initiatives.
- Recording and maintaining accurate inventory data for systems technology and network provisioning projects using ServiceNow.
- Utilizing diagnostic tools such as cable/network testers to troubleshoot issues.
- Following all IIT standards, policies, and procedures to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Preparing detailed reports on service incidents and capital projects, including recommendations for resolution.
- Monitoring on-site contractor activities and escalating issues to supervisors as required.
- Offering subject-matter input related to IIT service support and hardware maintenance standards.
- Maintaining both personal and company-supplied tools and equipment in a safe and operable condition.
- Providing first-level response to incident calls related to station communications, IT infrastructure, and extended passenger services, including but not limited to:
- Fare collection devices
- Public Address (PA) systems
- CCTV and digital signage
- Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems
- Wi-Fi (station/facility and onboard)
- PCs and printers
- Unified communications and telephony systems
- Performing scheduled maintenance on electronic systems per manufacturer recommendations or based on operational knowledge and usage patterns.
- Operating and working at heights using scissor lifts and bucket trucks as required.
- Lifting and handling equipment up to 50 lbs (e.g., monitors, enclosures).
- Completion of a three-year college diploma in Electronics, Computer Science, or Network Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- Certifications required: CompTIA A+ and Network+ (or equivalents). If not currently held, these must be completed during the probationary period at the candidate's own expense.
- A valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a clean driving record meeting corporate standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and other mandatory safety and job-related training, including Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) and Fit for Duty certification.
- Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience with the repair, maintenance, and testing of electronic or electro-mechanical equipment, with knowledge of microprocessor-based systems.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and the Microsoft Office Suite, along with the technical ability to diagnose and repair IP-based field equipment, printers, scanners, and other end-user devices.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to support cost-effective and timely installations and field operations.
- Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of a Metrolinx business vehicle and related tools in accordance with GO Transit requirements.
