The Healthy Schools | LINK | Écoles Saines project aims to develop, mobilize and launch a national framework for healthy schools in Canada to provide higher level support for our nation's schools to ensure every child can thrive. Reporting to the Principal Investigator the Research Coordinator specifically will support Stream 1: Better Monitoring of School Health Promotion to Improve Child and Youth Health and Well-being, Objective 2: Youth Engagement in School Health Promotion. This involves coordinating all research activities related to the Objective 2. This work will involve developing and identifying the essential conditions needed for youth engagement in school health promotion and co-develop a tool with youth to evaluate their role in school-based health promotion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all research activities related to the objective, including work plan oversight, and standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with study protocols, ethics submissions, and research plans.
  • Oversee recruitment, data collection and analysis, and maintain secure research databases and files.
  • Foster ongoing communication to build research capacity, including attendance of meetings with the research team and engaging with health and education partners
  • Create knowledge mobilization strategies and products, including the development and contribution to research publications, academic and community presentations, grant applications, and reporting.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree with three years of experience working with diverse interest holder groups within public health including school-aged youth.
  • Strong research skills, specifically in qualitative methods (e.g., ability to develop research methods and data collection protocols, collect and analyze data)
  • Ability to interact and engage with key partners and knowledge users in a clear and professional manner.
  • Strong research management, reporting, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work with minimal supervision while achieving specific goals within specific timelines.
  • Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills to produce knowledge products (e.g., manuscripts, reports, presentations, grant applications) and manage partner relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access) and Google. As well as Zotero or other bibliographic database management software, and NVivo, or other software to support qualitative data analysis.
