Business Manager, Vehicle Detection Operations

- Lead day-to-day operations across installation, commissioning, maintenance, and break/fix for vehicle detection systems.
- Own customer contract management, service levels, uptime targets, preventive maintenance programs, and dispatch efficiency.
- Oversee work planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for field techs and subcontractors.
- Standardize playbooks, method statements, commissioning checklists, and acceptance criteria.
- Manage a portfolio of service contracts and small to mid-size projects (from site surveys to handover).
- Drive change control, risk assessments, field readiness, and client communications.
- Ensure documentation is accurate and complete (as-built, test reports, inventory records, roadmaps).
- Own the operational P&L for the line of business: forecasting, labor productivity, material levels, and margins.
- Track and run weekly/monthly reviews.
- Support bids and renewals with realistic delivery plans, costs, and resourcing models.
- Manage procurement, RMA workflows, spares strategy, and warranty claims with OEMs and distributors.
- Qualify and govern subcontractors; enforce quality standards and safety requirements.
- Champion safety culture and adherence to Alberta OHS; conduct toolbox talks, JSAs, and incident reviews.
- Ensure traffic accommodation/work-zone practices and permits are in place for roadside activities.
- Implement quality checks, corrective/preventive actions, and continuous improvement (Lean/Kaizen).
- Coach and develop field technicians and supervisors; build succession and bench strength.
- Partner with Sales, Engineering, and Customer Success to align priorities and customer outcomes.
- Represent operations in client meetings, informal problem-solving conversations, and performance reviews.
- Some experience in operations, field services, or service delivery in ITS/transportation, telecom, utilities, security, or industrial IoT.
- Leadership of field teams/subcontractors with strong scheduling and dispatch discipline.
- Comfort with KPIs and financials: labor planning, cost control, service margins, and forecasting.
- Strong safety mindset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license; ability to travel across Alberta; ability to work occasional after-hours.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- ITS/traffic operations experience with agencies or municipalities in Alberta.
- Some practical experience with roadside detection technologies (e.g., radar, video analytics/computer vision, LPR/ANPR, magnetometer/inductive loops) and networked edge systems (IP, PoE, LTE/5G, VPN).
- Experience with SAP/ MS 365, project tools (MS Project), and reporting (Excel/Power BI).
- Certifications: Technical College Diploma, CET, COR/HSE training, WHMIS/First Aid, Flagging/Traffic Control.
- Experience in roadside work environments and temporary traffic control coordination.
- Experience with Azure/AWS IoT/edge, VMS/VNA, systems integration, or GIS-based asset management.
