As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of mechanical building systems across a diverse portfolio of public and private-sector projects. You will remain hands-on technically while providing guidance, oversight, and mentorship within the mechanical group. Mechanical Design & Technical Leadership
- Lead the design of mechanical systems for complex building projects, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems.
- Prepare, review, and stamp mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Provide technical direction and quality review support to junior engineers and designers.
- Manage mechanical project scope, schedules, and deliverables from concept through construction.
- Coordinate with internal disciplines, architects, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and condition assessments as required.
- Provide construction-phase support, including shop drawing reviews and field reviews.
- Act as a key technical point of contact for clients and project partners.
- Participate in client meetings, design presentations, and proposal development.
- Support business development efforts through technical input and client relationship building.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and designers.
- Contribute to internal standards, quality control processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in departmental planning and knowledge-sharing activities.
Projects may include:
- Transit infrastructure (rail and bus facilities)
- Emergency services buildings (fire, police, EMS)
- Educational institutions
- Community centres
- Municipal, provincial, and federal facilities
- Laboratories and specialty facilities
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with P.Eng. designation (required).
- 7-10+ years of mechanical design experience within a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong expertise in building systems (HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection).
- Experience providing technical guidance or informal leadership to junior staff or project teams.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu; Revit experience is an asset.
- Solid understanding of applicable mechanical codes and standards.
- Strong communication, organizational, and client-facing skills.
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for site work.
- A hands-on, detail-oriented approach with strong technical judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
- Interest in long-term career growth within a consulting engineering environment.
