Their firm handles personal injury matters including bodily injury tort claims, accident benefits LAT matters and commercial general liability claims. They are located in central Toronto, near public transit and Yorkdale mall. They offer a hybrid work environment and a competitive remuneration package.About the Position:As a clerk with their firm, you will be involved in the firm's cases from opening to closing and will have the following responsibilities:
  • Drafting pleadings, and a variety of other documents, for both court actions and for License Appeal Tribunal hearings which include but are not limited to: o LAT responses and Case Conference Summaries
  • Affidavits of documents
  • Statements of Defence and Jury Notices
  • Discovery plans
  • Ensuring compliance of LAT or Court orders
  • Reviewing, analyzing, summarizing, and briefing of documents
  • Arbitration preparation, including notification of witnesses, preparing document briefs, and arranging court reporters.
  • Trial Preparation
  • Following up on undertakings
  • Requesting, reviewing, and summarizing medical documentation.
  • Coordinating with clients, courts, and opposing counsel using various computer systems and databases
  • Preparing general correspondence
  • Managing files
  • Liaising professionally with clients, other law firms, and support staff
  • Other duties as required and assigned
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure, Insurance Act, and Statutory Accident Benefits
  • Understanding of all major concepts relating to AB claim, mediation and arbitration proceedings as well as Tort proceedings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Office Software Skills (Primafact and ACL an asset)
  • Ability to learn new procedures and software applications quickly and efficiently
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, problem solve, take initiative, and multitask
  • An ability to work independently, accurately and efficiently on multiple files simultaneously
  • Typing speed of 55+ WPM
