- Provide strategic oversight of utility accruals, forecasting, and cost management across West Fraser’s BC and Alberta operations and collaborate with external consulting firms to identify utility cost reduction opportunities
- Lead the administration and compliance of energy-related programs, including carbon credit mechanisms (VPPA, CFR (CATS), REC, TIER, BCOBPS) and regulatory filings.
- Drive forward-looking utility price forecasting and reporting to support corporate finance and mill-level decision-making.
- Laise with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Purchasing, Woods and IT, to gather and validate necessary data to quantify Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions.
- Support sustainability, emissions reporting and reduction efforts, by tracking and providing key performance indicators to the leadership group.
- Support the financial and operational execution of West Fraser’s carbon pricing strategy, including CPP compliance and emissions credit optimization.
- Act as a key liaison for federal and provincial reporting requirements, while contributing to broader sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement.
- Partner with IT and external consultants to enhance system automation, data integrity, and compliance assurance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across finance, sustainability, and procurement to drive alignment on cost control, reporting, and regulatory readiness.
- Provide accounting support to the climate team (Generate Purchase Orders, Process invoices, forecast and manage climate budget)
- Provide support and oversight of carbon project development across various parts of the business, including scoping, certification, and contract management.
- A degree in Finance, Accounting, Environmental Science or Engineering, or a related field; CPA is preferred or working towards or similar credentials is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in energy reporting, financial reporting, emissions compliance, or sustainability programs.
- Strong understanding of Canadian energy regulations and GHG reporting frameworks (AB and BC).
- Proficiency with Excel, BI tools, and energy/sustainability platforms (e.g., Oracle, FigBytes).
- A detail-oriented mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Competitive base salary with annual bonus potential (based on location, experience, and education). The typical salary range for this position is $109,357-$129,000.
