- Prepare payroll and information for transmission to the Shared Services Center and Ultimate for timely and accurate processing of local and expatriate employees pay. Maintain payroll and related documentation and information and produce a Payroll Summary each payroll cycle
- Adhere to all timelines as outlined for the payroll processes
- Reconcile all payroll account balances each pay prior to payment and submission, ensuring data integrity, accuracy of information and reconciliation of data across systems (payroll and taxable benefits)
- Accountable for the thorough checking and review ensuring all changes/adjustments/taxable benefits for the pay are individually validated before the go ahead to close. This includes pulling reports, conducting variance analysis, reviewing reasonableness pay over pay at both the employee and pay code level
- Review for non-exempt employees with exceptional hours is in compliance with employment standards
- Compile overtime/standby/call-in analysis reports and communicate with managers
- Continue to automate calculations and uploads to improve efficiency (Incentive upload, benefit premium calculations, DPSP match, etc.)
- Remit monthly payments for Employer Health Tax, Worker’s Compensation, and other statutory payments in a timely fashion
- Reconcile Tax forms, WSIB and Employer Health Tax Reports. Produce T2200 for all eligible employees annually
- Manage various internal and external audits by proactively compiling complete binder of required data and providing answers to meet auditor’s satisfaction
- Point of contact for various external partners to ensure data accuracy and Samsung Canada compliance (i.e. CRA, Revenue Quebec, KPMG, Provincial Health, WSIB, CNEST, Service Canada, Service Ontario, etc.)
- Knowledge of full cycle of financial accounting, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, business performance analysis, financial budgeting, and information systems
- Prepare year-end reports and documentation as required by both company management and government agencies
- Liaise between People Team and Accounting departments regarding payroll
- Manage payroll on boarding and off boarding for expatriates in conjunction with HRBP’s to ensure smooth transition and acclimatization to Canada (i.e. coordinate tax consult with KPMG)
- Coordinate with CFO on international tax equalization net to gross calculation for expatriates and Canadian salary, bonuses, housing, etc.)
- Payroll lead for global mobility (i.e. liaise with NAHQ, KPMG, Ultimate to establish split payroll functionality. Responding to routine benefit and payroll inquiries from staff as SME and research tax queries upon request
- Keep abreast of Payroll legislative changes / trends and ensure Samsung Canada maintains compliant and current with best practices
- Document all Payroll / Benefits / Savings programs processes and keep current at all times
- Special projects, as assigned
- Administer and maintain benefits through provider and conduct on-boarding communication workshop to new hires
- Ensure all new hires are accurately setup for benefits and process benefits continuance for involuntary terminations
- Answer general employee questions and troubleshoot issues (i.e. enrollment, claims issues)
- Acts as liaison with benefits and pension providers, various other vendors regarding administrative issues and other related benefit and pension inquiries
- Collect and analyze pension and benefit data for year-end projects, audits and annual renewals
- Manage related systems issues, upgrades and enhancements and work towards resolution
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned
- CPM (Canadian Payroll Manager or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification) required
- Highly proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other office products.
- Accounting, GL, SAP knowledge is preferred
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills to deal professionally with both internal and external parties
- Knowledge of UKG Payroll, Workday and UKG Dimensions Pro preferred
- Minimum 7-10 years of payroll experience preferred with 3-5 years in employee benefits and pensions
- Customer service oriented, sensitive to customer issues and understand the importance of diplomacy and confidentiality
- Ultimate Experience is a definite asset
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in dealing proactively with all levels of internal and external management, vendor, or agency personnel. This includes a high degree of sensitivity and change management abilities to intercultural personal and corporate dynamics
