- Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
- Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
- Major involvement in the installation and maintenance of the underground HV supply, dewatering, ventilation and services systems
- Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
- Maintain, repair, install and test substations, switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors
- Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems, automation related systems and other related devices
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
- General repairs and re-builds of Flygt sump pumps and small pumping stations
- May install, maintain and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices
- Document reports detailing work performed, problems diagnosed, pre & post checks and all other required shift paperwork
- Maintain and demonstrate a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors, the client and all other personnel
- Practice good general housekeeping in the work area and equipment
- Maintain a valid Driver's License; manual transmission experience required
- Possess general computer skills
- Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
- Provide your own basic hand tools as needed, most tools are provided
- Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency
- Preferred; 3-5 years of experience working underground as an Underground Electrician in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in underground mining operations
- Preferred; Red Seal Journeyman Electrician certification consideration will be given to 4th year apprentices
- Preferred; Sandvik development drill maintenance experience
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and BC Electrical Code
- Understanding of PLC control systems, an asset
- Experience with high voltage power distribution systems, 13.8Kv, 600V motor control centers and variable frequency drives, an asset
- The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
- Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions
- Read and understand manuals, schematics, diagrams and blueprints
- Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
- Document and communicate shift activities and priorities to the oncoming shift
- Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off - working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
