This role is net new role that is advisory-focused and will support complex tariff, origin, valuation, and trade remedy matters across a national client base.We are looking for a technically strong customs professional who can work directly with clients to navigate challenging customs matters and manage disputes arising from customs audits and help develop defense strategies.Your ResponsibilitiesAs part of BDO’s CITS team, you will:Advise clients on surtax/tariff exposure, customs compliance, and trade strategy across Canadian and U.S. regimesAnalyze classification, valuation, origin, and trade remedy risksDevelop defensible technical positions and draft advisory memorandaLead and support clients through CBSA verifications, and dispute resolution mattersDesign and implement customs compliance frameworks and internal controlsCommunicate directly with clients and regulatory authoritiesCollaborate with tax, transfer pricing, and cross-border teams across CanadaContribute to practice development, knowledge management, and coaching of junior staffThis role involves both technical analysis and client-facing advisory responsibilities.Your Experience and QualificationsUniversity or college degree/diploma in a Customs and International Trade disciplineMinimum 3–5 years of experience in customs advisory, international trade compliance, or regulatory dispute resolutionDemonstrated experience handling customs issue resolution and verificationsExperience at a professional services firm, CBSA, or in-house global trade function is a strong assetStrong working knowledge of:Tariff classification and valuation principlesFTA Rules of originCanadian surtaxes and trade remedy measuresProven ability to draft technical memoranda and regulatory submissionsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical capabilities and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple client engagements with competing deadlinesWhat We’re Looking ForThe ideal candidate:Thinks analytically and approaches issues from a risk and defensibility perspectiveIs comfortable navigating ambiguity in evolving trade policy environmentsCan engage directly with clients and regulatorsIs interested in developing into a senior advisory role within a growing national practiceThe expected range of compensation for this role is: $90,000 to $110,000Why BDO?Our people-first approach to talent has earned us a spot among .
