ROLE
SMJV is recruiting for a competent, enthusiastic, and dynamic CAD/Drafting Technologist to support pipeline, process piping, and facilities projects. This role reports to both the Digital Design Lead. The CAD/Drafting Technologist prepares engineering designs and drawings, processes survey information, creates 3D models, and as-constructed verification.SMJV places engineering at the forefront of all our projects and are looking to appoint someone to this role who will assist in furthering development in the industry. Applicants with experience are preferred but training / career development may be provided for candidates new to the industry.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review co-ordination models at tender stage; typical tasks include: QTO, MTO, clash avoidance/detection, and engineering model/drawing interrogation as required.
  • Create construction facilitation drawings and models including, but not limited to, access maps, site mobilisation layouts, earthworks & site preparation drawings, 3D site grading surface models for export to machine control systems.
  • Liaise with site teams and work with client 3D piping models to create ISO and PCF files amended in accordance with site team instruction and update to as-constructed status.
  • Accurately create new, and/or manipulate existing, 3D CAD models to fit laser scan pointcloud data including feature extraction/object recognition.
  • Work with geo-referenced and local grid coordinate system to import, extract and export co-ordinate lists for civil, structural and process piping components and equipment.
  • Create and edit piping specifications and equipment in CAD software as needed.
  • Produce project drawings in accordance with the company CAD Standard, ensuring that drawings are prepared, stored, issued, and archived in accordance with current company procedures.
  • Coordinate and moderate 3D model reviews.
  • Maintain Engineering Master Document Register and responsible for CAD data management of project.
  • Solve technical challenges and maintain and improve on knowledge of drafting techniques, standards, practices, and engineering procedures through the use Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Display excellent time management skills to complete time sensitive deliverables.
  • Display strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand what tasks are required.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited college program in Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or from a career college in Engineering CAD/BIM Technology.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence is required with clean drivers abstract to be provided prior to starting work.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in a similar role using CADWorx Plant Professional.
  • Demonstrated experience in Oil and Gas process piping design is required.
  • Proven ability to as-build and modify brownfield designs is required.
  • Experience with laser scan processing, pointcloud manipulation & clean-up, and proficient use of object recognition software is considered an asset.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Intermediate/advanced user of CADWorx Plant Professional is required.
  • Ability to utilize full functionality in Navisworks is required.
  • Competency in Bentley AutoPlant, Aveva PDMS or Autodesk Plant 3D considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI B31.3 piping design is required.
  • Working knowledge of CSA Z662 piping design is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of oil & gas pipeline/process piping safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong understanding piping stress design, facility construction techniques, and associated equipment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to use Autodesk Civil 3D is considered an asset.
  • Genuine interest to develop and progress digital delivery with a propensity for learning.
  • Strong and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to generate isometric and general arrangement drawings with accurate BOM’s.
  • Knowledge of survey fundamentals and coordinate systems is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The successful applicant will work from our Spruce Grove office when not deployed to project sites. When required, this role will be executed from the project site. Project shift is 6 days on 1 day off, 12-hour shifts for project duration. All required safety training and tickets are to be completed prior to starting work.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
