This individual would be joining a global team of specialists that reduce the impacts of geohazards, save lives, develop resilient infrastructure, and help protect communities.The Geohazards and Geomorphology team at Stantec:Develops geomorphological and geohazard models through terrain mapping and terrain assessmentsModels hillslope and channel processes and sediment transport to inform design for mitigating riskAssesses and analyzes pre- and post-wildfire debris flows and debris hazards and risk assessments. Integrates models into engineering design, management, mitigation and monitoring solutionsLandslide inventory mapping, probability of failure assessments, and quantitative hazard and risk analysesField mapping and investigations of hillslope, fluvial, coastal, karst, and tectonic geomorphology and geohazardsInterprets and analyzes aerial, satellite, InSAR, LiDAR, and UAV data to inform and monitor critical infrastructure and communitiesAdvances engineering geological models based on desktop and field analyses to inform clients on current and future conditionsWorks across business line and technical specialties that regularly include archaeologists, biologists, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, civil and environmental engineers, geomatics practitioners, and GIS expertsMore information about the Geohazards and Geomorphology team at Stantec can be found at Geohazards (stantec.com).Your Key ResponsibilitiesThis is a technical role at an intermediate level. You could reasonably be expected to:Provide technical expertise and conduct (at the desktop and field levels) - geomorphological assessmentslandslide and landslide hazard assessmentslandslide risk assessmentssupport geotechnical engineering assessmentModel natural hazard phenomena including landslides, rock fall, debris avalanches and debris flows, using industry leading software;Compile and analyze data in ArcGIS Pro;Collect field data and travel to and from sites. Short (5-10 days) field trips are not uncommon;Plan and lead field crews to safely acquire the data necessary to solve client challenges;Write reports and be responsible for technical accuracy, communicating limitations and assumptions, delivering within a budget and schedule, and ensuring that the quality meets industry requirements and Stantec expectations;Keep accurate time records and submit them weekly; andAssist with business development and scope development.Your Capabilities and Credentials:The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:A proven in-depth understanding of geomorphology with a focus on slopes or river systems.Demonstrated experience with field programs and the ability to read and correctly interpret the geomorphic landscape.Demonstrated experience in geomorphological mapping and methods.We have a strong preference for candidates with ArcGIS Pro experience. Other GIS experience is acceptable, but the candidate must be willing to rapidly learn ArcGIS Pro on their own time to meet the job requirements and expectations;Experience with managing, processing, and analyzing large data sets including but not limited to LiDAR, InSAR, Structure-From-Motion multi-view stereo point clouds is preferred.Familiarity with the geotechnical properties of soils and/or rocks;Willingness to travel and participate in remote field work and ability to adapt to unpredictable field conditions;Physically fit and able to endure hiking in rugged terrain. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather;Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time;Strong communications and writing skills;Ability to work independently;Work effectively in a team environment;Proficient in written English; andA valid driver’s license.Education and ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have a graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in the field of geomorphology, geology, engineering geology or related field and relevant experience.The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years of professional experience.Registered in good standing as a P.Geo. in British Columbia with EGBC. G.I.T. applicants will be considered but must demonstrate a clear path to their professional designation as a P.Geo. Registrations in other provinces are not a requirement but would be considered an asset, particularly AB and YK.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$86,900.00 - $126,000.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
