- Manages and advises on the academic evaluation process: evaluates engineering and geoscience credentials and determines the level of accreditation and fulfilment of academic requirements with respect to the Act, Bylaws and Credentials Committee policies.
- Determines the substantial equivalency of engineering, geoscience, and associated academic programs; advises on and oversees research on institutions and degrees not in Engineers Canada’s International Institutions and Degrees Database.
- Advises staff and applicants on the application of academic policies and recommends appropriate pathway forward for applicants.
- Maintains communication with Engineers Canada, Geoscientists Canada, and other national and international organizations with respect to updated information on academic qualification. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the Engineers Canada Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) activities related to their accreditation of Canadian post-secondary engineering programs, as well as recognition of international programs associated with mutual recognition agreements. Considers policies and past precedent cases in developing innovative and fair approaches for non-academically qualified applicants seeking registration.
- As required participates in Engineers Canada and Geoscientists Canada initiatives including meetings, surveys, workshops, and consultations; collaborates with volunteer committees and subcommittees; and works on initiatives with cross-departmental staff teams.
- Acts as senior staff support for internal subcommittees and assessment panels, including providing policy and procedural guidance. Oversees the process for academic assessments assigned to these groups. Reviews meeting agenda entries and attends meetings as required.
- Participates in process improvements and develops, monitors, and reports on performance indicators for all steps in the assessment of academics. Supports volunteer and staff teams to identify policy and process improvement opportunities. Identifies policies and procedures of the Credentials Committee related to assessment of academic qualifications that require revision or development, collaborates in their development, and leads their implementation.
- Evaluates and advises on low-risk applications for professional engineer and professional geoscientist registration as needed, by providing a preliminary review of an applicant’s academics and experience. Presents and provides observations and recommendations to the Director, Registration and the Associate Director, Admissions.
- Provides leadership to direct reports with accountability for hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring; responsible for conducting all aspects of performance management as well as making recommendations for training and development.
- Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the departmental leadership team.
- Bachelor's degree in field of study relevant to the role is required; education in Engineering or Geoscience is preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist designation is preferred.
- 5-7 years of relevant previous experience is required. Experience in a policy-driven environment with a focus on administrative fairness and in continual quality and performance improvement; and/or experience with the engineering and geoscience professions, the regulatory environment, process optimization and the principles of administrative law and other statutes affecting the successful integration of qualified individuals into professions in Canada.
- 2-5 years of experience providing leadership and direction to direct reports with accountability for hiring, training, coaching / mentoring, overseeing all aspects of performance management, and making recommendations for training and development.
- Experience monitoring and having accountability for budget management.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and project management skills and knowledge required to successfully manage moderately complex, department-wide projects.
- Experience with computerized database structures and office technology, data management and process analysis, and analytical and investigative software.
