- Being a part of our mine engineering team you will learn skills in mine planning and design. Our teams cover a wide range of scopes from supporting day to day active mine operations, planning for the development of future mine pits, and planning for the closure landscape of Kearl. Responsibilities could include data analytics, mine fleet assessments, pit design, material movement, and water management
- You will be offered a wide range of duties where collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team will gain you valuable insight and experience into open pit mining operations
- You will be part of the mine and tailings planning team learning skills in tailings planning, fluid tailings management, fines treatment and tailings modeling/mass balance
- You will be working closely with a multi-disciplinary technical team including mine planning, geotechnical engineering, and reclamation/closure planning in support of our two operational tailings facilities and future planned facilities
- You will support the Geotechnical Engineering team and assist with design, surveillance, and reporting for Kearl's earth structures, including tailings dykes, overburden disposal areas, roads, and pit walls. You will have the opportunity to interface with interdisciplinary teams and gain a working understanding of mine and tailings planning
- Specific duties could include using Slope/W to complete stability analysis in support of earth structure designs, working with field staff to evaluate construction deviations, and reviewing geotechnical instrumentation to understand the performance of earth structures that are currently under construction
- Enrolled in at least 2nd year of mining, civil, geotechnical, geological, or similar engineering undergraduate university program
- Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a team dynamic
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement, and growth mindset
- Previous job experience will be seen as an asset, especially in related industries
- Open to occasional trips and coverage at the Kearl mine site if required, including overnight stays in camp
- Previous experience using Slope/W is an asset for candidates interested in a position within the geotechnical team
