- Review and process bi-weekly payroll for all assigned hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate payroll-related onboarding activities, including new hire setup and orientation.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, entitlements, benefits, pensions and related matters in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain confidential employee records in accordance with organizational policies and privacy standards.
- Assist employees with payroll-related termination queries, offboarding, and final pay processing.
- Prepare remittances related to payroll and benefits, including year-end reporting (e.g., T4's, T4A's and T5's).
- Ensure compliance with organizational polices and the collective agreement provisions related to payroll administration.
- Generate custom and system-based reports for internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues and employees to address payroll, benefits, and pension inquiries with professionalism and accuracy.
- Ensure accurate enrollment, maintenance, and termination of eligible employees in benefit systems, including processing changes as required.
- Provide clear and timely guidance to employees on group benefit plan provisions and related administrative processes.
- Support disability and leave management processes, ensuring documentation is complete and aligned with current policies.
- Administer pension and group retirement savings plans, responding promptly to inquiries from employees and Alberta Pensions Services (APS).
- Assist with tri-annual and annual pension audits and group retirement savings plan reviews in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide employees with information and support regarding pension and retirement savings plan provisions, including enrollment, termination, and buyback options.
- Apply and ensure compliance with annual reporting requirements for MEPP and PSPP.
- Completion of Administrative diploma or equivalent; preferably college graduate of an accounting, payroll, or business program.
- 3 - 5 years direct experience in payroll administration
- Knowledge of employment standards, Canadian Payroll legislation and tax regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in full cycle payroll, benefits and pension administration, including union dues and garnishments.
- Preferably with payroll administration experience in a unionized setting.
- Candidates with or working towards having Canadian Payroll Practitioners designation will have a definite advantage.
