Reporting to the Team Lead of the Business Intelligence Development Unit (BIDU), under the Business Analytics, Intelligence and Reporting (BAIR) Section, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) requires a highly organized, dedicated individual to conduct strategic and operational analyses and to transform data sets into compelling visuals and actionable intelligence for diverse audiences.Specific responsibilities of this position will include:
  • Developing corporate business intelligence reporting solutions.
  • Using statistical, analytical and modeling tools to identify operational impacts and crime trends.
  • Leverage new and existing data, creating new tools and analytical products to provide stakeholders with the information they require to make evidence informed decisions, as well as monitoring and launching new initiatives.
  • Guiding, developing and editing business intelligence data visualizations.
  • Conducting business analysis to increase efficiency and build business process improvement models.
  • Researching analytics trends related to intelligence led policing, public safety and workload management.
  • Consulting with internal and external stakeholders to document analytical business requirements, to ensure analytical products meet business needs.
  • Collecting data, developing analyses, ad hoc queries and business intelligence products and tools that meet business requirements.
  • Testing and validating business intelligence products and tools following EPS quality assurance processes.
  • Communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • University graduation (preferably at the Master's level) in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or a discipline as required by area of specialization and a minimum of four (4) years’ directly related working experience is required.
Skills required for success:
  • Proficient in data collection, database mining, and statistical analysis.
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel, and coding in SQL, R or Python.
  • Experience in the use of business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or Google Looker.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, oral and written communications skills.
  • An ability to collect, analyze and interpret data and statistics using quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Ability to prepare and present complex statistical reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in completing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly at the executive level.
Assets:
  • Experience with analytics-oriented cloud computing platforms such as Azure, Fabric or Snowflake
  • Experience in project management methods and software.
  • Proficient in data visualization techniques, including layout, colour, and interaction design would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with police data and data models.
  • Experience in using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and tools.
  • Experience working in policing or public safety environment and experience with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and Records Management Systems (RMS) and data.
