- Develop and identify best practices for the minimization of tax risk at the account level for implementation by the tax team and by regional staff
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the end user client experience, actively seeks feedback, engages and gains the buy in of key stakeholders and effectively communicates to target audiences.
- Identify and assess tax training needs of staff and liaise with the National Tax Manager, Taxation Advisory Group and the Director, Professional Development and Sales Enablement to develop and deliver effective and superior tax training and materials to staff
- Responsible for the mentoring, training and development of tax staff on all substantive and technical tax matters
- Ensure that employees understand RBC vision, as well as support and reinforce targeted behaviors that contribute to RBC goals
- Provide focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management, supporting career development and rewarding strong performance
- Accept and successfully execute change while supporting employee through the change management process, and keeping them focused on business priorities
- Ensure co-ordination of efforts among RBC partners to ensure high delivery of quality client service
- Engage in focused partnering with Senior Trust Advisors and internal partners including external professional advisors to ensure the seamless and timely resolution of tax matters
- Demonstrate commitment to taking ownership of staff concerns as first point of contact for technical tax matters
- Set and reinforce standards around internal and external client and partner communications, which include email, phone or in-person interaction with clients.
- Work in partnership with other business units and colleagues to ensure a seamless experience for shared client
- Act as subject matter expert on tax matters for the Ultra High Net Worth/Complex Account team.
- Oversee the development and review of tax policies, procedures and any internal and external forms or documents related to tax and private company support
- Act as primary contact with the National Tax Manager for the escalation of technical matters for the tax group and for all Royal Trust staff and provide technical support through the delivery of advice, research, and risk analysis
- Maintain awareness of opportunities to determine areas of operational risk or potential losses. Recommend and implement action plans to address and/or correct.
- Accountable to remain current in developments in recent law and communicate those to staff where appropriate, including through educational seminars and changes to policy and procedure.
- Responsible for the tax management of a select group of complex trusts including certain trusts with US tax implications.
- Provide tax filing review support to the tax team during tax season
- 10 - 15 years related experience, preferably with current public accounting practice experience
- CPA Designation
- Technological literacy
- Knowledge of taxation requirements for estate and trust products including U.S tax experience
- Knowledge in Common Law / Civil code relative to the Estate, Trust and Agency business is an asset
- Knowledge of financial services, securities industry including trading, settlement and Corporate Change Announcement processes
