- Processing and recording incoming and outgoing trust transactions in our financial management system.
- Preparing outgoing trust payments by cheque or wire transfer using online banking platforms for multiple banks.
- Coordinating with Partners, Legal Assistants and Finance Management, the release of trust funds to successfully close deals.
- Liaising with banks and Partners to ensure trust funds are appropriately invested and redeemed when requested.
- Adhering to Law Society regulations of the corresponding jurisdictions of the trust transactions.
- Obeying strict internal control policies to mitigate both external and internal risks and threats facing the Firm.
- Identifying potentially fraudulent and abnormal requests.
- Responding to general inquiries from both internal and external sources about policies, procedures, deadlines, and status of trust transactions while monitoring both Firm personal and shared email inboxes.
- Ensuring timely clearing of unapplied funds.
- Assisting with the return of dormant trust accounts.
- Assisting in Trust process improvement projects.
- Assisting in systems testing for Trust functions.
- Providing back-up to team members nationally.
- Other responsibilities as required.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is required.
- High school diploma; post secondary or diploma in accounting is an asset.
- 3 - 5 years related work experience, preferably in a professional services work environment.
- Knowledge of accounting software and banking procedures; basic knowledge of accounting principles.
- Ability to communicate with Firm members and external clients in a professional manner, providing outstanding service (internal and external).
- Capacity to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Aderant Expert accounting system will be considered an asset.
