We strongly believe in the power of recreational activities to support these needs.Campus & Community Recreation offers a large, year-round Intramurals, Club Sports, Outreach and Engagement Programs involving over 10,000 participants annuallyPosition SummaryReporting to the Team Lead, Student-Led Activities (SLA), the Coordinator, Climbing Facility and Programs is an integral member of the Campus & Community Recreation Program team. The Coordinators are responsible for the day-to-day operation & delivery of the climbing facility, climbing and adventure-based programs, as well as other student-led activities. Within a framework of sport and facility management, tasks associated with student-led activities include facility operations, event management, competitive & recreational structure, student leadership development, and engaging users in safely utilizing the climbing center. CCR facilities, events & programs engage the University of Alberta Community in various outreach and engagement activities that may include drop-in use, programs, workshops, events, group rentals and outdoor adventure programs. The Coordinator will also participate in the implementation of other campus events (such as Reccrawl, orientation activities, open house events, competitions and fundraising activities) and promotions as required.The Team Lead, Student-Led Activities will assign duties in the area of climbing facility & operations, programs, youth camps & ActiveU programs, and adventure-based on and off-campus events throughout the year based on operational needs. A Coordinator position will serve as the Summer Camp lead for the Wilson Climbing Center. The Camp Lead will provide a consistent point of contact for camps using the Climbing Center and will seek to maximize use of the space and human resources to support a full array of camps. The Camp Lead will also work closely with the other CCR Camp Lead(s).This position requires the ability to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends as required.Duties
- Responsible for the day to day oversight of CCR Climbing facilities and student-led activities and events including, programs (both adults and youths), workshops, group rentals, youth camps, and adventure-based special events as assigned by the Team Lead, Student-Led Activities; responsibilities include: operations, planning, program delivery, scheduling, processing facility allocation requests, group rentals, addressing equipment needs, human resource oversight, risk management monitoring, results reporting, and statistical reporting under the supervision of the Team Lead, Student-Led Activities;
- Plan and deliver high-quality student-focused programs and activities in assigned program focus areas;
- Coordinate program offerings and schedules for outreach and promotional-based activities as assigned;
- In collaboration with the Team Lead, SLA, prepares course registration information in the Intelli system and for registration;
- Train and coach casual staff;
- Provide oversight on-site daily;
- Develop relationships within the university and Edmonton communities to create collaborative program offerings;
- Develop and participate in promotional activities across campus designed to enhance student and community awareness in the area of recreation and physical activity;
- Instructs or supports staffing for Climbing (i.e. May include but not limited to indoor and outdoor climbing instructional programs, adapted climbing, groups, camps, etc) as qualified and as needed;
- Perform and document facility and equipment safety inspections in the area of responsibility;
- Responsible for Climbing Centre maintenance and repairs (anchors, worn sections, hold attachment fixtures
- Ensure industry standard risk management policies, procedures, and strategies are in place for all aspects of the assigned programs & activities.
- Undergraduate degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation, sport management or a related field
- Minimum of one year of experience related to facility, sport, recreation and/or event management
- Standard First Aid (within 3 years) and CPR C Certification (within 1 year) required
- Current Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required
- Climbing Centre Route Setting Experience is an asset
- Experience in Recreation Facility Management Software is an asset
- Climbing Gym Instruction Certification is an asset
- Experience in facility management, programming, officiating and/or instructing in sports and recreation activities preferred
- Experience with equipment purchasing preferred
- Customer service and problem-solving experience preferred
