WHAT IT TAKESThe CSIS Computer Lab Student Assistant assists students with learning software, networking, operating systems, and virtual machines in their courses by providing in-person (and/or online) peer tutoring. This software includes:
· Cisco Packet Tracer;
· Eclipse/IntelliJ IDEA (Java Programming);
· File management in Windows;
· Internet browsers, including but not limited to Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox;
· Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point;
· Oracle VirtualBox;
· Ubuntu;
· Visual Studio (C#);
· Windows 10;
· Windows Server;
· Wireshark.Responsibilities
- Assists instructors and students in the CSIS labs (and/or online).
· Prefer to have remote/online working experience;
· Good knowledge on Windows OS;
· Good knowledge on Internet browsers, including but not limited to Internet Explorer, Chrome,
Firefox;
· Good knowledge on Visual Studio (C#) (for working in CSIS 1175 lab);
· Good knowledge on Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point (for working in CSIS 1190 lab);
· Good knowledge on HTML (for working in CSIS1280 lab);
· Good knowledge on CSS (for working in CSIS1280 lab);
· Good knowledge on JavaScript (for working in CSIS1280 lab);
· Good knowledge on Java programming (for working in CSIS 2175 lab);
· Good working knowledge on Cisco Packet Tracer, Wireshark and Oracle VirtualBox (for working in
CSIS 2260/2270 lab);
· Basic working knowledge on Windows 10, Windows Server, and Ubuntu (for working in CSIS
2260/2270 lab);
· Good knowledge on Cisco network configuration and troubleshooting using packet tracer (for
working in CSIS 2260/2270 lab);
· Good knowledge on computer network fundamentals (for working in CSIS 2260/2270 lab); AND
· Successfully completed: 1) CSIS1175 or CSIS2175, with a “B+” or higher grade; AND/OR
2) Both of CSIS 2260 and CSIS 2270, with a “B+” or higher gradeDomestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant: * The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
- The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR
- The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR
- The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term
- The international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., has a valid Study Permit that has the notation - “May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.” Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.
Additional InformationThe position is located at the New Westminster campus. Hours of work: up to a maximum of 20 hours/week. The work terms for this position are:1. Fall 2025: September 2, 2025 - December 15, 20252. Winter 2026: January 5, 2026 - April 24, 20263. Summer 2026: May 4, 2026 - August 16, 2026
