This position will work directly with the organization to generate necessary documentation for the preparation of tax returns including estimated taxes, state apportionment and other schedules as needed. The position will work collaboratively with cross functional teams to develop tools and processes to efficiently manage compliance costs, cash taxes and general and administrative spend. The primary compliance functions will include interaction with third party operators to review and discuss tax matters related to required tax filings and payments as well as managing third party service providers in the areas of partnership taxation.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage tax compliance matters including providing workpaper support and review of third party and internally prepared returns
  • Review quarterly tax installment requirements and co-ordinate payments with the Treasury department
  • Preparation or review of journal entries related to tax refunds and payments.
  • Review Canadian monthly tax provisions and co-ordinate inclusion in overall consolidated tax provisions.
  • Analysis of capital expenditures incurred to determine appropriate tax classification.
  • Quarterly review of thin capitalization ratios and EIFEL limitations and providing strategies to maintain compliance with thin cap and minimize limitations under EIFEL.
  • Maintain PUC and ACB balances for corporations and partnerships. Research technical tax matters and file documentation to support tax positions
  • Key role in trial balance automation and import for every legal entity
  • Liaison to Legal team and Accounting for legal entity matters related to registrations, withdrawals, dissolutions, legal entity reporting structures, election follow up and other matters as needed
  • Primary contact with operating partners to discuss tax matters including income allocations and supporting schedules for tax filings, payments and other items
  • Respond in a timely manner to all tax notices and support tax positions as needed with taxing jurisdictions

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required; CPA preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of tax experience in a CPA firm or corporate tax department, with extensive knowledge of OneSource tax preparation software and strong proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting and general ledger systems.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage detailed timetables.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong team orientation with a customer service focus.
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional attitude.
