Why is this role important?The Manager, Data Infrastructure is responsible for planning, managing, administering and continually improving the data architecture and operations of CIHI's highly secure and robust data infrastructure, its associated analytic technologies and environments.What you'll do1. Leads and motivates the team by providing clear direction, effectively delegating, monitoring performance results, coaching, and developing team members; motivates and develops others to go above and beyond; support others through change; make decisions that balance the best interests of the team, the organization and its stakeholders; and lead by example by living CIHI's core values.2. Manages the day-to-day operations of the Data Infrastructure department, while also providing clear strategic direction and vision to a team that consists of senior database administrators, data engineers, web and middleware services admins, BI analysts and data operations analysts. With this team, the manager will support CIHI's database platforms, application server platforms, business intelligent and data operations platforms.3. Works closely with key stakeholders throughout the organization, in defining high-level business requirements and providing an understanding of how Information Technology services and solutions can meet and enhance business opportunities and objectives, including business planning and business case development.4. Takes a proactive role in driving key internal projects and leads cross-functional initiatives from conception to completion. This includes, defining detailed project scopes, establishing clear milestones, managing budgets, and strategically allocating resources. By coordinating closely with diverse teams and project managers, the manager ensures that deliverables consistently align with organizational priorities, and that projects are executed efficiently and within budget constraints.5. Develops and monitors operational plans and budgets for the department ensuring the application of appropriate CIHI policies and procedures. Provides input into both overall ITS and specific cloud Infrastructure and analytic operational and strategic plans.6. Supports CIHI's Information Security Management System (ISMS) through the implementation, management and/or monitoring of required Information Security controls. As a member of the ISMS Steering Committee, actively contributes to the management and continual improvement of CIHI's ISMS initiatives.7. As a core member of the Change Advisory Board (CAB) plays a vital role in ensuring that changes to data infrastructure are strategically managed, risks are minimized, and organizational priorities are consistently met. Their role is pivotal in maintaining secure, robust, and high-performing IT environments in support of business goals. Provides a solid understanding of ITIL principles and experience operating within that framework.8. Assumes a leadership role in orchestrating cross-departmental collaboration within ITS, and helps drive the adoption of best practices and innovative solutions, ensuring the ongoing enhancement, security, and scalability of CIHI's architecture, infrastructure, and standards.9. Ensures systems remain current, secure, and aligned with organizational needs through ongoing implementation of internal measurement tools, feedback mechanisms, and compliance with policies, procedures, and service-levels.What you'll bring to the table
Academic background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Sciences, Project Management, Business Administration or other similar discipline.
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in project management and/or providing project-based solutions for applications and database development.
Minimum of 3 years of people leadership and resource management experience.
Extensive knowledge and experience managing and operating data infrastructure and platform services, with a solid understanding of application life cycle management.
Demonstrated technical experience in database management or analytic environments.
Knowledge of health informatics, particularly at CIHI, is a strong asset in this role.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a matrix management structure.
Effective leadership skills with the ability to connect strategy to operational output.
Proven planning, organizational and project management skills.
Effective negotiation and facilitation skills.
Ability to meet light travel requirements as needed.
Fluency in English is bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
