The PositionUnder the general direction of the Wellness Center Manager, the Community Events Coordinator will support the implementation of events and specified programs for the Community Member Services (CMS) Division in a collaborative and culturally safe way that promotes the health and well-being of the shíshálh Nation community.The Candidate:
  • Coordinate event management activities, resources, and information; this includes tracking all event plans & tasks, ensuring event coordination follows a timely & efficient schedule, & administrative & financial tasks (including maintaining the event budget).
  • Plan, facilitate, and provide on-site coordination for all community events, which includes choosing & booking venues, approving menus, organizing entertainment, coordinating & ensuring that cultural protocols, including traditions & ceremony, are observed, & event set-up, tear-down, & follow-up processes are completed.
  • Coordinate planning for specified programs, such as the Summer Fun Program, which includes scouting & booking locations, facilitators, & activities.
  • Plan & coordinate all events & program communication, including advertising & information content for social media platforms & newsletters.
  • Ensure all electronic files & records are catalogued by year to provide up-to-date reference materials.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all events & specified programs.
  • Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate evidence-based wellness-related, prevention, education workshops, programs and/or presentations for youth, families, and/or the community using appropriate resources and technology.
  • Work/liaise with the wellness team, education, health, and social development departments by way of developing, delivering, and evaluating culturally relevant wellness promotion and education programs, services, events and activities for the shíshálh Nation community members.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively at all levels to support the use of family-centred, strength-based, child-focused practices while assisting families in building their capacities to provide safe and nurturing environments for children.
  • Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Completed education in event planning, business administration, or related field and a minimum of 2 years related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Strong computer software skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Excel).
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, MailChimp and graphic design skills are an asset.
  • Strong accounting/budgeting background is an asset.
  • Experience in a First Nation environment providing Child/Youth Wellness Health services.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • High level of initiative and self-direction.
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Valid Driver's License required (Class 4 would be desirable).
  • Lead and participate in program activities and events that occur on evenings, holidays, or weekends.
