Job DescriptionSEMCO - Business Services Analyst
The Business Services Analyst is responsible for a variety of tasks including but not limited to: developing business reporting, performing analytical reviews, maintaining departmental budgets, and providing data analysis to internal and external departments to support operational objectives.Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Participate in departmental planning and the monthly reporting process by collecting and monitoring actual performance data against prepared forecasts.
  • Participate in the preparation of external reports submitted to the MPSC as well as other governmental agencies.
  • Perform data analysis to support financial and operational objectives throughout the Company. Analytical requirements include, but are not limited to, conducting trend analyses, data validation, and identifying solutions to business process gaps.
  • Develop reporting using Cognos Analytics tools including SQL to meet the needs of the Company.
  • Support and maintain analytical tools and databases for tracking and reporting metrics to various departments.
  • Manage departmental and Company projects within time and budget guidelines, including conducting research, preparation of and presenting materials, developing recommendations, project implementation, monitoring and revising as necessary.
  • Adhere to company internal control procedures and business processes to ensure SOX compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field to uphold responsibilities as subject matter expert.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business, Data Science, or closely related field.
  • Two to four years of analyst experience or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience.
  • Ability to research problems independently and propose business solutions.
  • Proven organizational and analytical skills in order to analyze processes, make recommendations, monitor the effectiveness of the department and provide future direction and guidance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in order to effectively manage a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Must be able to provide change-management leadership that will effect change to support the business strategy.
  • Good working knowledge of various business software applications presently used by the Company. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Preferred experience with Cognos Analytics, SQL, Visual Basic, Power BI, and Microsoft Access.
