This role is ideal for an experienced HSE professional who thrives in dynamic project environments and brings strong field leadership to site teams.The HSE Specialist will provide on-the-ground safety leadership across an active mining construction environment. This includes field inspections, audits, incident investigations, safety coaching, and supporting frontline leaders to meet safety expectations and critical control requirements.Work Location: Remote BC mining site
Rotation Schedule: 2/2 (camp site assignment with chartered flights available, food and accommodation provided)
Employment Status: Independent Contractor
Contract Duration: 8 monthsKey Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections, investigations, safety audits, and hazard identification activities.
- Support implementation of the site H&S plan and critical controls.
- Provide hands-on coaching and training to project personnel.
- Lead or support incident investigations and event reporting.
- Collaborate with contractors to ensure compliance with project safety standards.
- Support safety programs including fatality prevention, injury reduction, and well-being initiatives.
- Contribute to change management and safety management system processes.
- Maintain strong administrative accuracy in reporting and documentation.
- Minimum 5+ years of Health & Safety experience, preferably in mining or large-scale industrial projects.
- Mining experience required. Oil sands experience also considered a strong asset.
- Construction project experience is essential.
- CRSP or CRST designation strongly preferred.
- Experience with DATS (Digital Access Tracking System) preferred; experience with other HSE management systems also acceptable.
- Proven ability to manage incident investigations.
- High administrative competency and comfort with safety systems and reporting tools.
- Supervisory or leadership experience is a strong asset.
- Experience working in BC is preferred.
- Strong safety leadership presence in the field.
- Able to push back professionally when required-a strong backbone.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to perform in a demanding project environment.
- Self-aware with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to build strong relationships with contractors and project teams.
