As the Painting Contract Inspector, you will play a key role in supporting the Facilities Maintenance team by managing and overseeing the execution of both on-demand and scheduled maintenance painting projects. Your responsibilities will extend to the coordination and inspection of various construction projects where painting services are required.What will you do?
  • Prepare specifications and tender documents for contracts; meet with clients, engineers and other Trade related professionals to discuss projects, and assess requirements for the development of drawings/sketches and specifications
  • Coordinate paint contracts, including issuing purchase orders to awarded contracts
  • Confirm customer requirements, prepare work plans and accurate project cost estimates
  • Meet with contractors to determine scope of work, develop project timelines, monitor work performance and inspect completed projects prior to payment authorization; document/photograph site conditions, workplace hazards and code regulations; prepare budget estimates for inclusion in client operational maintenance budgets
  • Perform facility inspections and investigate any maintenance problems
  • Provide recommendations regarding paint condition and life expectancy Interpret drawings and specifications
  • Work with Foremen/Supervisors to determine project priorities and work flow Investigate new products and procedures and make recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure all activities are performed within Occupational Health and Safety and environmental guidelines
  • Process all supporting documentation as required
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or GED supplemented by a Journeyman Certificate in Painting from a recognized institute of technology
  • Courses in blueprint interpretation, cost-estimating, report writing, computer applications and supervision are required
  • 5 years progressively responsible experience in the Painting trade supplemented with experience in contractor project supervision, site inspections, job estimating, construction costs, specification preparation and the interpretation/application of regulatory codes as they pertain to construction projects
  • LMS- Contract Inspector Training Program, LMS- Contract Management Fundamental Certificate
Skills required for success:
  • Experience operating computer systems and utilizing office automation software
  • Demonstrated ability in estimating and preparation of technical reports
  • High level of technical knowledge related to the painting trade and its relationships with other trades; working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Proven ability to plan and organize painting projects; knowledge of functions and procedures of project management
  • Proficient computer skills in Google, Excel and SAP
  • Effective abilities related to communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, problem solving, building relationships and supervisory/leadership skills

  • Possession of current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) is a requirement of the role
