- Recruit, screen, and interview volunteers
- Deliver volunteer orientations, onboarding, and training to comply with Occupational Health & Safety Standards, and City of Edmonton policies
- Support other units onsite with ongoing scheduling, coaching, and evaluation of their respective volunteers
- Maintain ongoing communication with our volunteers, and keep volunteer records in accordance with records management best practices; produce reports as needed
- Maintain program supply inventory, procure as needed, and maximize budget- not limited to hosting materials, recognition items, cards, etc.
- Support with planning and attending volunteer events; this may on occasion include support with outreach events
- Support Volunteer Services Program Coordinator with evaluation of the volunteer program
- Other duties as assigned
- Completion of a High School Diploma or GED is required
- Completion of the first year of a recognized diploma or degree program; preference will be given to recreation, history, education-based, or social work programs
- Minimum of 1 year direct experience leading recreational, cultural or related educational programs
- Experience working with volunteers
- Experience with customer service
- Previous supervisory experience with staff or volunteers with practice in application screening, conducting reference checks, interviews, and delivering training sessions
- Certification in Volunteer Management
- Event planning or community organization experience
- Experience working with diverse audience (including individuals with disabilities, youth, seniors, or English-language learners)
- Strong communication: Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels and community partners
- Organization and independence: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines,
- Customer service excellence: Comfort managing a variety of customer service expectations, and awareness of volunteer sector trends and best practices
- Administrative excellence: Experience with Google Workspace and Volunteer Management software
- Comfortable walking distances and working outdoors

- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C is required
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or provincial equivalent and ability to obtain a City Driver’s Permit
- Ability to work a flexible schedule: Wednesday–Sunday (April–October) and Monday–Friday (November–March)
- This position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement due to the nature of onsite supervision

- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
- Comfortable walking long distances and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to common allergens such as hay, straw, fur, and pollen
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 20 lbs frequently and climbing stairs
