- Serve as the senior technical authority for all structural and civil engineering activities.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, practices, and design methodologies.
- Lead long-term planning for structural engineering capabilities, technology, and workforce development.
- Provide expert guidance on complex or high-risk projects.
- Approve and seal structural designs, reports, and calculations as required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Mentor, coach, and develop civil/structural engineers and designers, including succession planning for key technical roles.
- Champion continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
- Work closely with project managers, architects, engineering teams, and external consultants.
- Communicate technical decisions and risks to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Represent the structural and civil disciplines in strategic initiatives and corporate planning.
- bachelor's degree in structural engineering;
- 10 or more years of progressive structural engineering experience, including leadership of complex brownfield projects related to mining;
- registered professional engineer (P. Eng);
- eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) & professional engineers Ontario (PEO);
- demonstrated expertise in structural design, analysis, and code compliance;
- experience leading technical teams with the ability to coach and develop engineers;
- strong communication, decision making, and stakeholder management skills; and
- travel to Cameco's northern Saskatchewan and/or Ontario sites by aircraft as required to support projects.
- master's degree in civil or structural engineering;
- knowledge and familiarity to run structural analysis using STAAD_PRO software as well as performing design calculations with MATHCAD software and/or excel sheets;
- knowledge of applicable codes (NBCC, NFCC, NECB), standards (CSA S16, CSA N393, CSA A23.1, A23.2, A23.3 and A23.4) and regulations (Saskatchewan Mines Regulations);
- knowledge of 3D viewer software such as Navisworks, Jetstream, Point Cloud;
- knowledge of emerging technologies and innovative engineering approaches;
- experience with third party reviews, code compliance reviews and fire hazard assessments;
- understanding of containment requirements; and
- familiarity with radiation shielding requirements.
