Job Summary & Key ResponsibilitiesThe School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Part-Time Academic Instructor position in the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (BEDS) Architecture Program. BEDS is a Pre-Professional undergraduate Architecture degree. Students enroll in the BEDS degree in their third year of undergraduate education, entering a two-year sequence in Year 3 and 4.The Instructor will teach a 3-credit, second-year sequence course in architectural history covering the mid-twentieth century to contemporary built environment. Prior course outlines and structures are available. The Instructor is invited to provide their disciplinary lens to the course structure, content and delivery.The course is structured as a 1.5 hr lecture + 3 hr seminar/workshop each week. Seminars are led by the instructor graduate teaching assistants. The format of the seminar/workshop is adaptable based on instructor's course structure.The course cohort is approximately 70 students. The Summer Term is an 11-week term, from May 4 to July 17. Remote course delivery is possible.An Academic Calendar description can be found at this .
Qualifications/Requirements of PositionEducation and Experience
- M.Arch or equivalent Master's degree
- Prior instruction of large format undergraduate architecture history course, or similar prior college or university-level teaching experience.
- PhD or equivalent in Architecture History or related field preferred prior to appointment; all but dissertation (ABD) may also be considered.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and facilitate student learning.Ability to work cooperatively with diverse faculty and student populations.
- Excellent record of scholarly, creative, or other professional accomplishment in relevant field.
Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
