Job Summary & Key ResponsibilitiesThe School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Part-Time Academic Instructor position in the Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree program. The M.Arch. is a professional two-year graduate Architecture degree. Students complete a Pre-Professional Bachelor degree before M.Arch. enrolment.The Instructor will teach a first-year 3-credit seminar in recent sustainable development in developed and developing countries. Graduate seminars are topics-based, and can be developed in the instructor's research and/or practice area-of-expertise. The instructor is responsible for developing their own curriculum. Prior course outlines and structures are available. An Academic Calendar description can be found at this .Graduate humanities courses consist of up to approximately eighteen students, and meet one time each week for 3 hours. The Summer Term is an 11-week term, from May 4 to July 17.Graduate humanities courses may be taught remotely. In-person is preferred.
Qualifications/Requirements of PositionEducation and Experience
  • M.Arch or equivalent Master's degree
  • Prior instruction of graduate architecture humanities course, or similar prior college or university-level teaching experience.
  • PhD or equivalent in Architecture History or related field preferred prior to appointment; all but dissertation (ABD) may also be considered.
Professional Competencies
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and facilitate student learning.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse faculty and student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong record of scholarly research and publication in architectural history, theory, or a related field, appropriate to career stage.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at the graduate level, including evidence of effective student engagement and mentorship.
  • Ability to frame course content within contemporary disciplinary debates and critical discourse.
