- Develop, maintain, and operate Linux software and systems for high-reliability data logging, remote data acquisition, processing, storage, and dissemination, including management of underlying infrastructure (OS, network, VMs) to ensure continuous operation in field-deployed systems and server-room systems.
- Support field site deployments, repairs, and technical troubleshooting in collaboration with team members, ensuring reliable data collection and transfer. There would be typically 5-10 trips/year, each less than a week, prioritized during the summer according to group activity and equipment needs.
- Maintain back-end storage and processing infrastructure.
- Operate, maintain and expand web-based data portals to ensure availability and support data sharing. Collaborate with researchers to configure interfaces for data visualization and remote monitoring of field systems.
- Monitor and analyze remote site operations, instrument health, data quality, and system performance, implementing improvements as needed. Support reporting for CSA and other external funding agencies.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in computing or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: At least 2 years in programming and data management, ideally in research or field settings.
- Technical Skills: Strong programming skills; proficiency with server management/Linux system administration, VMs, and data backups in a Linux environment.
- Analytical Skills: Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving; skilled in diagnosing and resolving IT and data issues to ensure reliability.
- Communication: Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and documentation skills; strong team player, self-motivated with high initiative.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver's license; able to travel to remote sites. Ability to assist with moderate to intense physical activity during field work, such as carrying equipment, digging, etc.
- BASH and C in Linux are considered strong assets.
- Web development and database familiarity are preferred.
