- Design and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Establish policies, procedures, and standards for data management, quality, privacy, and security.
- Develop and maintain a data governance roadmap to support continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular reviews of the data governance framework to adapt to evolving business needs and regulatory changes.
- Integrate feedback from key stakeholders to refine and enhance governance practices.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify data governance issues and develop solutions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations, including PIPEDA and BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
- Monitor and report on data governance effectiveness using KPIs and audit metrics.
- Conduct periodic audits to identify and remediate data quality and security risks.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of data governance processes and compliance activities.
- Partner with IT, Risk, Compliance, and Business Intelligence teams to ensure consistent data practices.
- Provide training and support to staff on data governance policies and tools.
- Act as a liaison between business units and technical teams to align data governance initiatives.
- Develop and deliver workshops and educational materials to promote data literacy across the organization.
- Encourage feedback and participation from staff to foster a shared responsibility for data governance.
- Oversee the use of data management tools.
- Support data classification, metadata management, and data lineage tracking.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance data governance capabilities and efficiency.
- Ensure the integration of data governance tools with existing enterprise systems for seamless workflow.
- Inspire and mentor data governance team members to achieve high standards of performance and professional growth.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning within the data governance function.
- Champion best practices in data stewardship throughout the organization and actively promote cross-departmental engagement in data governance initiatives.
- Lead efforts in change management and encourage data literacy throughout the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles.
- Experience in the financial services or credit union sector is preferred.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in data management technologies and analytics platforms.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive cultural change around data stewardship.
