Ottawa Little Theatre (OLT) is searching for a dynamic, creative TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/HEAD OF CONSTRUCTION to join and lead within our production team in Ottawa Ontario. The successful candidate will be part educator, part artist, and full-time builder. With primary responsibility for our scenic builds, they will foster an effective shop environment. Our busy, mid-sized team works collaboratively, with creativity & flexibility. The successful candidate supports the organization through cost-effective, efficient builds & mentorship of our production staff. Reporting to the President, the TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/HEAD OF CONSTRUCTION has broad responsibility.Duties:
- Cost set designs; collaborate in building shows, seasons budgets and schedules
- Set technical standards for the operation of the theatre
- Drafting: Reading, reviewing, revisiting and creating drawings – strong spatial sense and able to create and maintain ground plans and sections that clearly communicate information
- Maintain and coordinate an efficient production equipment program
- Supervise maintenance of the equipment and maintain the physical theatre in c lean, safe and secure working order
- Prepare drawing packages for scenic carpenters and scenic artists technical research and design of special effects – if required
- Organize production departments and tech week activities Co-ordinate inter-departmental projects (lights, sound, set pieces)
- Directing construction, installation and strike crews

- Cleanliness of workshop and backstage, storage, transportation or disposal
