Technical Design LeadOur client is searching for a technically skilled and experienced Technical Design Lead to oversee structural design processes for commercial and institutional construction projects. This role is responsible for leading the design of truss, beam, and related components for mid-rise wood-frame and hybrid structures, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and constructability. The Technical Design Lead will collaborate with project managers, estimators, and sales teams, while mentoring junior designers and maintaining high standards of drawing quality and file management. The ideal candidate will bring over 5 years of experience in structural design, strong proficiency in AutoCAD, and a practical understanding of construction methods and sequencing.Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Lead technical design for truss and beam systems in commercial, institutional, and multi-family projects
  • Review and modify design files for accuracy and compliance with building codes and construction standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce complete and competitive bid packages
  • Coach and mentor design staff, fostering technical growth and consistency
  • Coordinate design and production workflows to meet project timelines and budgets
  • Serve as a key technical resource during both bidding and construction phases
  • Ensure structured file management and integration with BIM tools where applicable
Your strengths include:
  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Civil/Structural Engineering Technology, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in structural design, ideally in commercial or multi-family projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM experience is an asset
  • Deep understanding of mid-rise wood construction and engineered structural systems
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Experience working with contractors, engineers, and internal teams
  • Practical knowledge of construction sequencing and site coordination
