Our client, who is a large organization in Ottawa, is looking for a Payroll Advisor to replace an existing vacancy. Reporting to the Manager of Payroll, you would be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a high-volume, multi-entity workforce in a unionized environment.Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Processing biweekly payroll for a large, complex employee group
  • Managing payroll changes including salary adjustments, benefit deductions, refunds, and balance payouts
  • Processing individual and group retros related to compensation changes
  • Conducting payroll audits and validating HRIS data for accuracy
  • Processing and uploading Records of Employment (ROEs)
  • Administering maternity and parental leave top-ups
  • Investigating and resolving pay discrepancies, overpayments, and banking issues
  • Interpreting collective agreements and applying scheduling rules to payroll processing
  • Responding to written and verbal payroll inquiries from employees, managers, and stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance with Employment Standards, CRA guidelines, Ministry of Labour regulations, and organizational policies
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and adherence to privacy legislation
About YouThe successful candidate will have the following:
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
  • Minimum of three years of payroll experience
  • Experience processing payroll in a large, complex organization
  • Strong knowledge of payroll principles and General Ledger impacts
  • Experience interpreting collective agreements and applying scheduling rules
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards legislation, CRA guidelines, Ministry of Labour regulations, and Service Canada processes
  • Experience working with HRIS systems
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with sound judgment and discretion
  • Ability to manage high volumes of work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines
About the Job
  • Salary range: $71,000 to $86,000/yr
  • Location: On-site (3 days per week minimum); training is fully on-site for approximately three months
