The Bissett School of Business hosts four departments: General Management & Human Resources, Accounting & Finance, International Business & Supply Chain Management, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.The Bissett School of Business is an accredited member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a global, non-profit, membership-driven organization dedicated to management development.About the BBA, General ManagementThe Department of General Management & Human Resources offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in both General Management and Human Resources. The BBA in General Management helps students understand the “big picture” in a variety of business sectors. The BBA in General Management helps students build a solid academic foundation to pursue career possibilities in human resources. Core Courses include Human Resources, Marketing, Global Business Environment and Business Communication, Operations Management, Business Law, Organizational Behaviour, and Strategic Management.About the RoleThe Department of General Management Resources at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2026. We seek an individual who can contribute meaningfully to the general management program. The candidate will teach courses that align with their expertise, which may include General Management core classes (e.g., Management Principles and Practices, Organizational Behaviour, and Strategic Management) and/ or departmental electives (e.g., Corporate Social Responsibility, Governance & Ethical Issues, and Environmental Management). The successful candidate may also have the option of developing and delivering a special topic(s) course in General Management in the future. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their qualifications and interests in each applicable subject area of interest.New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member is involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) has a focus on teaching and service only. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure. Faculty are expected to teach six 3-credit hour courses per academic year on the TSS pattern or eight 3-credit hour courses per academic year on the TS pattern. Class sizes typically average between 35-40 students.This tenure-track faculty will be hired into a TSS work pattern. This means that the faculty member will be responsible for teaching 6 courses per year (usually 3 in each of the fall and winter terms with some flexibility) and will be involved in various service roles. Per our Collective Agreement, “a candidate who has two or more years' service in a tenure track position or a full-time academic staff appointment at a Universities Canada accredited, or equivalent, institution may have up to two years credited towards the probationary period at Mount Royal University” (Article 4.3.9.2, p.17).Responsibilities
  • Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outlines, course materials, activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and maintaining course learning management system.
  • Administration: administer final exams, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in course-related meetings, as required.
  • Research: executing a program of research within the context of an undergraduate university.
  • Service: may include coaching student competition teams, mentoring student clubs, assisting with the development of curriculum, and serving on departmental and university committees.
  • Community: At Mount Royal University our industry connections are an important and integral part of our programs. The successful candidate will be required to actively liaise with industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Bissett School of Business.
Qualifications (TSS):Preference will be given to applicants who have the following qualifications:
  • A PhD in management or a closely related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered as long as the defense date is set prior to the start date;
  • An emerging or established program of research;
  • Teaching experience in general management courses (listed above) at the post-secondary level and the ability to teach introductory through to senior level general management courses;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in equity, diversity, and inclusion and has experience ensuring the learning environment is accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population.
Additionally, the successful candidate may have some of the following attributes:
  • Skills/experience in designing/redesigning post-secondary curriculum asset;
  • Has a particular interest in leading redesign of the General Management introductory course Management Principles and Practices;
  • Experience with Indigenous Relations and established connections to Indigenous communities, including students is an asset.
