The Resilience Research Centre (RRC), based at Dalhousie University, focuses on children and youth living in challenging contexts across culturally diverse settings worldwide. The RRC is an international group of scholars, practitioners and policy makers from more than 20 countries who together collaborate on research and knowledge mobilization projects. Over the last 15 years, the Centre has received over $10M in research funding for mixed methods studies from national funders and helped its overseas partners secure another $8M from domestic and international granting agencies. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to build a strong network of contacts and increase their publications.We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to lead advanced evidence synthesis within a place-based population health research program focused on youth health and well-being in Canada. The successful candidate will play a central role in conducting and supervising systematic and scoping reviews and methodological syntheses related to:
  • Multidimensional measurement and indices of youth health and well-being
  • Evidence on spatial variation in youth health and well-being and its determinants
  • Place-based and spatial analytic methods in population health research used to understand geographic differences in youth health and well-being
Tasks:
  • Design and lead multiple systematic and scoping reviews following PRISMA standards
  • Develop and refine database search strategies in collaboration with an academic librarian
  • Conduct literature searches in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science
  • Manage citation screening and extraction workflows using review management software
  • Supervise and train research assistants in evidence synthesis methods
  • Communicate to project team developments/progress and results of research activities ensuring that relevant information and issues in the implementation of project/research activities are captured in as comprehensive and timely manner as possible.
  • Write and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals and other recognized media that highlight findings from research and project activities ensuring consistency with the highest standards of academic publication and showcasing the scientific leadership of the RRC.
This work will directly contribute to the development of a rigorous, equity-informed methodological framework designed to identify and study geographic areas where youth health and well-being are consistently high and equitably distributed.This position is ideal for a scholar with strong expertise in systematic or scoping review methodology who is interested in contributing to the advancement of innovative, equity-focused population health methods.Hybrid role: The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines. The successful applicant will be required to move to Nova Scotia if the applicant resides outside of Nova Scotia at the time of the application.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
  • Completion (or nearing completion) of a Doctoral program in public health, health sciences, social epidemiology, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting systematic reviews and/or scoping reviews (provide at least one reference that shows the experience)
  • Strong familiarity with PRISMA and PRISMA-ScR reporting guidelines
  • Experience developing database search strategies and managing review workflows
  • Proven track record of research and publications relevant to the position.
  • Proficiency in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Assets:
  • Multidimensional understanding of youth well-being and its determinants.
  • Experience with population health measurement or well-being indicator frameworks
  • Familiarity with spatial or place-based health research
  • Knowledge of Canadian health data systems
Salary Range/Pay Rate $70,000 per annum prorated to $42,000 per annum at .6 FTE for 21 hours/week
