If you're passionate about outcomes and inspired by the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare infrastructure, we want you on our best-in-class team.ABOUT THE ROLEThe Indirect Tax Specialist will assist the tax department with various indirect filing and compliance responsibilities, tax planning and research.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Account analysis and preparation of working papers to support the filing of monthly/quarterly/annual federal and provincial sales tax returns.
  • Review operator prepared working papers and sales tax returns.
  • Review current tax processes and procedures for efficiencies and ensure compliance by operators.
  • Research best practices to ensure we maintain full compliance and make recommendations to management.
  • Identify opportunities and implement strategies to reduce risk of noncompliance and maximizing input tax credits.
  • Process & data entry real estate tax bills, valuations, and notices into internal database.
  • Monthly/quarterly monitoring of property tax accruals to ensure payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Manage the Indirect tax calendar to ensure timely filings, and co-ordinate all necessary GST, HST and PST tax payments.
  • Assist with the preparation of W-8-BEN-E and related residency certification forms.
  • Assist advisors with annual report filings and research. Includes paying invoices received from third party support services
  • Reconciliation of government sales tax statements to accounting records and independently resolving discrepancies. Create an action plan to resolve any issues while keeping the tax department informed of potential risk and recommending solutions for mitigating those risks.
  • Handle government audits including answering auditor queries and researching tax legislation to support filing positions.
  • Preparation of self-assessments on new real estate developments, new residential property rebates and other applicable ITCs relating to constructed real estate.
  • Independently research, analyze and document excise tax issues or legislative changes.

  • Accounting designation (CPA) complete or actively working towards attaining, is preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience with preparing and filing sales tax returns.
  • Industry experience in seniors living and real estate development/management a plus.
