- Collaborate with senior lawyers to develop and implement strategic plans for Indigenous clients.
- Draft a variety of legal documents, including commercial agreements, laws, bylaws, and policies.
- Provide support during negotiations, strategic planning, and project management activities.
- Represent clients in consultation meetings, negotiations, and community engagement sessions.
- Assist with regulatory matters and drafting agreements such as impact-benefit agreements and relationship agreements.
- Conduct research and provide advice on governance matters, including Indigenous law and traditional decision-making processes.
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored legal solutions.
- Manage files independently while ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
- Participate in negotiations with government, industry, and other stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Support the revitalization of Indigenous decision-making and governance systems.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in legal drafting and negotiations.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with clients and teams.
- Eligibility to practice law in British Columbia as a member of the Law Society of BC.
- Familiarity with negotiation and consultation processes involving Indigenous communities, government, and industry.
- Experience in regulatory hearings, environmental law, or resource management is an asset.
- Knowledge of Crown government negotiation frameworks and related policies is preferred.
