- Lead full-cycle payroll operations across multiple locations and pay groups, including salaried, hourly, and commissioned employees.
- Ensure accurate, timely payroll processing while maintaining strict compliance with federal and provincial legislation.
- Oversee statutory deductions and remittances, including source deductions, WSIB, EHT, garnishments, pension, RRSP, and union dues.
- Manage year-end payroll activities, including T4s, ROEs, reconciliations, and government reporting.
- Maintain strong internal payroll controls and audit readiness across all payroll processes.
- Conduct payroll audits and resolve discrepancies to ensure ongoing accuracy and integrity.
- Act as the Payworks subject matter expert, overseeing payroll system configuration, reporting, and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency through automation and system enhancements.
- Partner closely with HR and Finance to ensure seamless integration between payroll, HRIS, and accounting systems.
- Ensure payroll practices align with Employment Standards legislation, collective agreements, and company policies.
- Provide expert payroll guidance to leadership, HR teams, and employees.
- Manage payroll-related inquiries while maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism.
- Support payroll integration during acquisitions and dealership expansions.
- Prepare payroll reporting, analytics, and insights for senior leadership decision-making.
- Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance and documentation standards are maintained.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Canadian Payroll Association designation (PCP or CPM) required
- 7-10 years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership responsibility
- Experience managing complex payroll environments with salaried, hourly, and commissioned employees
- Background supporting multi-location organizations
- Experience working with unionized environments considered an asset
- Automotive retail or multi-site retail experience preferred
- Experience supporting M&A payroll integrations is a strong asset
- Advanced experience using Payworks
- Expert knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation
- Strong understanding of WSIB, statutory remittances, pensions, and benefit deductions
- Exceptional analytical, auditing, and reconciliation skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across departments
