Duties:This position is primarily responsible for matching and placing Social Work, Social Services, and Child and Youth Care students in practicum placements. Key responsibilities include:
  • Recruiting new practicum sites and maintaining relationships with existing ones
  • Orienting agencies, supervisors, and mentors to VIU program practices and procedures
  • Developing and maintaining practicum materials and resources
  • Matching students to appropriate practicum sites using placement software
  • Generating reports, forms, and supporting materials for practice education and student orientations
  • Collaborating with faculty and staff on practice education initiatives
  • Implementing education and recognition activities for community agencies and mentors
  • Participating in placement networks and meetings at the program, faculty, and regional levels
This role may require travel to various settings across Vancouver Island, as well as sourcing suitable placements for distance education students in diverse locations.Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.Required Qualifications:Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited post-secondary institution and a minimum five years of demonstrated knowledge and practice experience in health and/or social service settings, including work with diverse populations across the lifespan (children, youth, adults, and older adults).
  • Strong knowledge of the role of field education within post-secondary social services programs
  • Clear understanding of the differences between diploma and degree programs, and how these distinctions affect practicum procurement and the needs of students and community partners
  • Demonstrated knowledge of services provided by a diverse range of human service agencies, including those serving First Nations communities and organizations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, time management, and written and oral communication
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, both independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, including resolving complex scheduling conflicts
  • Proficiency with online technology and learning management systems, including Microsoft Office
  • Experience designing and delivering educational opportunities for a wide range of stakeholders
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in the public post-secondary environment and successful project management experiences.
