
Spare Transit Operator - Yellowknife

- Operate transit vehicles safely along assigned routes in compliance with traffic laws and Transdev policies.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report defects promptly.
- Greet and assist passengers with courtesy, including individuals with disabilities or mobility issues.
- Provide route, schedule, and fare information to passengers as needed.
- Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally, escalating to supervisors when required.
- Maintain punctuality and adherence to time schedules while ensuring safe driving.
- Communicate delays or service interruptions to dispatch immediately.
- Ensure passenger safety by monitoring behavior and enforcing safety rules on board.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or emergencies following company protocol.
- Use onboard radios to communicate with operations and dispatch staff.
- Ensure fares are collected as per policy and issue transfers or passes when applicable.
- Monitor fare evasion and report repeated issues to supervisors.
- Complete daily logs, mileage sheets, and incident reports accurately.
- Report mechanical issues or maintenance needs through the appropriate channels.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and presentable during the shift.
- Report vandalism or cleanliness issues to maintenance promptly.
- Comply with all Transdev Yellowknife, territorial, and federal transportation policies and regulations.
- Attend all required safety briefings, training sessions, and certifications (e.g., Class 2 with S endorsement).
- Display professionalism at all times as a representative of Transdev Yellowknife.
- Support community events or rerouted service during emergencies or special transit operations.

- A valid Class 2 or Class 1 Driver’s License with Air Brake and S endorsement.
- A clean driving record with no major infractions in the past 3 years.
- Minimum 1 year of commercial or professional driving experience preferred (e.g., school bus, transit, or paratransit services).
- Familiarity with Yellowknife roadways and traffic patterns is considered an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to engage with passengers of all backgrounds.
- Physically fit to safely operate a bus, assist passengers, and perform routine safety inspections.
- Good judgment and decision-making in handling unexpected road or passenger situations.
- Punctuality and reliability, with the ability to follow time-sensitive schedules.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, split shifts, evenings, and weekends.
- A strong understanding of Workplace Safety and Health Act regulations related to transit operations.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in public transit.
- The ability to pass a vulnerable sector records check and drug/alcohol testing.
- This is a casual, non-unionized position in Yellowknife.
- Transit environment: early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.
