- Maintain an adequate system of internal controls and verification over accounting transactions, ensuring all information and reports remain timely and accurate
- Create and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Prepare and manage monthly reconciliations
- Run full-cycle accounting, including standards and principles
- Work with leadership to review reporting, cash flow projections, analysis, and work in progress reconciliation and provide recommendations
- Collaborate with the Operations Team in relation to cost to complete verification and monthly reporting
- Manage effective payment processing and reporting
- Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process
- Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implement new processes
- Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases as needed
- Develop and monitor business performance metrics
- Support the Operations Team in cost accounting, budgeting and ongoing management
- Stay current on financial related practices, trends, computer/software advances, political or regulatory activities, and competitive or economic changes which may affect the company
- Maintain the chart of accounts and internal control systems over accounting transactions
- Provide support for the external accountant and year end review engagement
- Broad understanding of income tax and regulatory rules, including GST.
- Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA) required
- 5+ years of experience working with a public accounting firm
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Expertise in month-end closings and financial statement preparation
- Proficiency with accounting software, specifically QuickBooks and Sage
